This system is designed to operate in the temperature range between < 20 K (expected lowest temperature is ~ 15 K) and 475 K. (b) Water cooled compressor, with a full charge of high purity helium gas and 10 ft (3 m) long flexible stainless steel lines. (c) Sample chamber with six (6) ports for six (6) independent micro-manipulated probe stations. It offers a 2’’ diameter clear view quartz window adjusted to ensure clear viewing of the sample area and all the probes with the optional monoscope. A secondary vacuum space is connected to this chamber through a customized vibration isolated link to reduce the vibrations that are transmitted to the sample chamber. The secondary chamber has a safety pressure relief and a high vacuum valve, plus multi pin electrical feed through access to the sample mount heater, and thermometery. (d) Cooled and highly polished radiation shield to reduce the total heat load on to the cold head, including cooled 2’’ fused quartz top window for achieving lowest possible sample temperature. (e) Instrumentation including: * High temperature stage * One (1) Si diode thermometer and one (1) 50 ohm control heater on chuck sample mounting plate for temperature control and measurements. * One (1) additional Si diode on Cold Head Copper Finger. (f) The probe station is designed for optical transmission experiments using the following features: * A central hole on sample mount for transmission experiments * A 45 degree angled mirror * A 0.5’’ diameter clear view side quartz window on vacuum shroud. (g) Six (6) independent Low Frequency (LF) probe stations, LF probe arms mounted on X, Y and Z translation stages, providing 50 mm total travel along the probe axis (X-direction), 25 mm total travel in the horizontal direction perpendicular to the probe (Y-direction) and 10 mm total travel along the vertical direction perpendicular to the plane of the sample (Z-direction). Each stage is capable of an incremental translation of 12.5 microns with a typical of 6.25 micron sensitivity.
